Once the bed bug heat treatment has been completed, we recommend staying out of your Orlando area home or apartment unit until temperatures have reduced to normal levels. This can take a few hours unless you open windows to expedite the cool down process. - Place the bed bug heater on a flat surface, usually a folded down back seat, and secure the heater with bungee cords so it won’t move or tip over. If you have a larger vehicle (like a van or SUV), consider using the heater and one air moving fan as well.
- Plug in one or two heater element wires and route all wires through a cracked open window. Place a towel along the window opening and gently close it, sealing the gap to eliminate heat escape as best you can.
- Plug in all wires into the home’s electrical supply and use extension cords as necessary. It is always a good idea to park as close to the house as possible!
- Heat the car the same way as a room… run the bed bug heater until you have achieved the 120 degree bed bug kill temperature, then run it at least four more hours. This process should go quite a bit faster than a room treatment.
- After the treatment and cool down is complete, vacuum again and clean out the vacuum's collection bin or throw away the bag.
- Consider heavily spraying a 50/50 rubbing alcohol and water mixture along all seams, nooks and crannies as a precaution. You could also spray a pesticide, but do not let it make contact with an area you touch with your body. Another messier option would be to lightly dust with diatomaceous earth into cracks, seams, cup holders, all upholstery and carpeting. Be sure not to get the powder wet or it renders it useless.
